By late summer, the Matilija poppies are fading. The big white blooms are gone, and the leaves are saying their quiet goodbyes — drying, curling, whispering farewell until next spring.
I catch them before they go.
Those last leaves were pressed into this silk with a light touch of cutch — a natural dye that lays down a soft, warm brown background. Against it, the poppy leaves left their delicate, ghostly impressions. Subtle. Soft. Like a memory of the bloom that was.
