My Story

The Wildflower Ranch - The Original Saddle Blanket and Tack Sets

Fifteen years ago, I started The Wildflower Ranch making mohair and alpaca tack and a few accessories.

Back then, the standard was 1/2 diamond and diamond designs. Simple, traditional western patterns. That's what everyone made. That's what everyone sold.

Then someone asked me if I could make a cheetah print cinch. I said, "Of course." I had no clue how I was going to do it, but "I can't" has never been in my vocabulary. That cheetah cinch came out beautifully.

What I did next, no one else was doing. Other makers were matching the colors of their customers' blankets. I started putting the blanket design itself right on the tack. Not just color-matched, but mirror images of the blanket. And I didn't buy the colors — I custom dyed every single one. Mixed every recipe by eye until it was exactly right.

I worked with my two favorite designers, Yucca Flats and Yonder Horse, selling their blankets and creating the tack to match them.

Then I decided to create my own blankets.

That turquoise in Transformation? My recipe. That mustard gold? My recipe. That cream, that black, that teal? Mine. All mixed by eye, until it was right. I even matched customers' show shirts and dyed Wild Rags to match. You couldn't find these colors anywhere else.

That's why when you buy a blanket, cinch, and breast collar from me, it's one original story — the same pattern, the same custom colors, woven through all three pieces.

From a standard 1/2 diamond to original designs and over 10,000 pieces of mohair and alpaca tack — I raised my family on this business. One challenge, one color recipe at a time.

I was a single mother running every aspect of this business by myself. For a couple of years, I stepped back from making much tack. Life asked me to tend to my own herd first — my health and my family needed me. I needed a break, and I took it. I didn't quit. I paused, like any good cowgirl does when her family needs her.

I was the original to put the intricate blanket designs on the tack. I still am.

Every piece of western tack is hand-dyed and handmade by me. Every saddle blanket design and color palette originates right here at The Wildflower Ranch in Llano, California. My designs are brought to life by the hands of my team of expert, generational craftsmen who embrace every challenge they're handed.

Now I'm back at the dye pots and back at the loom, with a rested heart and steady hands — bringing you the next chapter with The Gossamer Cowgirl silks.

Thank you for being part of this 15-year ride.
